Dr. Hawley was born and raised in Southern Utah where his family farmed and owned a cattle ranch. He graduated Cum Laude from Utah State University. Dr. Hawley completed his Doctorate studies at Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California. After receiving his Doctor of Optometry Degree he moved with his family to Bakersfield in 1986. He was in private practice for 10 years. In 1997 a large Ophthalmological practice recruited him. For five years Dr. Hawley worked in this large multi-specialty surgical eye group gaining valuable experience. A desire to give quality care and a slower pace, he opened his own office again in December 2002.

He has been active in the California Optometric Association throughout his career. Legislative activities have taken him to Sacramento many times to lobby for scope of practice issues and patient care legislation. He has served as the President, President-Elect, Secretary, and Political Action Chairman for the Kern County Optometric Society. The California Optometric Association conferred "Young Optometrist of the Year" award for his contributions to the profession of Optometry in the state of California.

Dr. Hawley is married to his wife, Shelly, and they are the proud parents of three children and ten grandchildren. He enjoys sports, backpacking, and spending time with his family.
