Dr. Sturgell was born and raised in Denver, Colorado where he received his bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in business from the University of Colorado Denver. He and his wife then moved to rural Kentucky to pursue his graduate studies at the Kentucky College of Optometry. He graduated with his Doctor of Optometry degree in 2022. While in Kentucky, they welcomed their two children into their family, and they quickly learned to love life in the Appalachian Mountains.
During his optometric training Dr. Sturgell spent time in various practice settings such as hospitals and private practices as he worked with underserved patients in rural Kentucky. He spent two years of church missionary service in south Texas where he learned the Spanish language. He continues to utilize his Spanish-speaking abilities in his current optometric practice.
Dr. Sturgell has received valuable training and experience in treating dry eye disease with advanced treatments including low-level laser and intense pulsed light therapies. He also enjoys working in primary care optometry, helping patients of all ages see their best and maintain great eye health.
In his spare time Dr. Sturgell enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, with a third child on the way. He enjoys reading a good book, working on personal fitness, playing the piano, and cheering for his beloved Denver Broncos.
